FOCUS Training does the Harlem Shake

FOCUS Training decided to do the Harlem Shake in the office, which turned a typical day in the office into a wild scrum of Harlem Shakers!

Service Doesn’t Have to be a Teeth Pulling Experience

service photo

Last weekend, I had an opportunity to travel to Upper Michigan and volunteer at an event. It was unlike most volunteer opportunities. Typically when I think of volunteering, I envision serving meals to the homeless or working with Big Brothers, Big Sisters. But this weekend? A free day of dentistry.

That’s right. People from all over the area came to the John Fornetti Center to have teeth cleaned, filled…and pulled (They used the word “extracted”, I don’t know which one sounds worse).

While this type of volunteering was different for me, it was a nice reminder that serving others does not have to be typical or routine. There are thousands of ways to be of service to others; the important part is that you find a way. Serving those around you benefits everyone: the people you help, the community, it even helps to build your character.

So I’d challenge you this week to find a way to be of service and to approach it with a positive attitude. It doesn’t have to be difficult or strenuous. Who knows, you may love it! And if you don’t love it, keep in mind, there are a lot of other ways to serve.

Have you had any unique service experiences? I’d love to hear about them in the comments.
